How to Prepare a Commercial Capital Request

A clear request helps lenders understand the use of funds, the repayment path, and the timing behind the opportunity.

Commercial financing starts with a complete picture of the opportunity. A lender needs to understand what the capital will accomplish, how much is needed, when it is needed, and how the obligation is expected to be repaid.

Start with the purpose

Explain the transaction in direct terms. Identify whether the request is for an acquisition, construction, refinancing, equipment, working capital, or another business purpose. Connect the requested amount to a specific plan rather than presenting a number without context.

Organize the supporting information

  • Business or property financial information
  • Ownership and borrower background
  • Purchase contracts, project budgets, or equipment quotes when applicable
  • Existing debt and current obligations
  • A realistic repayment or exit strategy

Requirements vary by lender and transaction. Preparing the core information early makes it easier to identify questions, compare potential structures, and keep a review moving.
